When I was earning my PhD, one thing that really surprised me was how few resources I had as a woman of color in the way of mentoring, student support and career development.
I Often Felt Shut Out, Dismissed, Or Even Shunned By People Who Were Supposed To Be There To Help Me.
Many times I was given books to read or workshops to attend that did not speak to my experience. I invested time and money based on recommendations from mentors who were not personally interested in my success. It was frustrating and a huge waste of time and money.
Once I finally earned my PhD, I found out that finding a position in the academic field was just as daunting for women of color. That is when I decided to establish Black Girl Brilliance, LLC in Charlotte, NC to be a bridge for women of color who are facing the same challenges that I did.
It took a lot of effort, self determination, and pure will to find the success that I have had in academia. It should not have to be that way. Too many brilliant, highly educated, and powerful women of color are deterred from an academic career path when in fact we need more women like us in the cultivating careers in higher education.
“Your vision + my strategy = academic career success!”
My goal at Black Girl Brilliance, LLC is to remove those barriers and to ease your way to the career you seek.
I believe that you should not have to move mountains just to earn your Master’s or Doctorate. You should not have to do it alone either. When you come to me for career and teaching consultation, you will not have to do it alone!!
“I’ll be there to help you leap over the hurdles and push through the roadblocks so that you can focus on what really matters.” With me you get one-on-one personal coaching by someone who is invested in your success. I truly care about helping you to succeed.
